Why it matters that we are Licensed Insolvency Trustees
In Canada, only a Licensed Insolvency Trustee is legally authorized to file a Consumer Proposal or administer a Bankruptcy. Because LITs are federally regulated under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, they can explain formal legal options that may provide protection from eligible creditor actions.

Have Questions? We’re Here to Answer
What is a Licensed Insolvency Trustee?
A Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT) is a federally regulated professional, licensed by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy. An LIT is the only person in Canada legally authorized to file a Consumer Proposal or administer a Bankruptcy. That regulation is what gives you genuine legal protection.
How is a Consumer Proposal different from Bankruptcy?
A Consumer Proposal may allow you to repay a portion of eligible unsecured debt over time while avoiding bankruptcy. In many cases, people are able to keep assets, but what applies depends on the full situation. Bankruptcy is a separate legal process that can clear most unsecured debt and give you a fresh start. We will help you understand which one fits your situation best, with no pressure either way.
Do you serve clients outside Calgary?
Yes. While our office is in downtown Calgary, we help clients right across Alberta, including Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Airdrie, Okotoks, Chestermere, Medicine Hat, and Fort McMurray. Wherever you are in the province, we help you find the best debt relief options through online and onsite appointments.
How do I get started, and what does the first consultation cost?
Your first consultation with SCB Debt Solutions is completely free and fully confidential. You can call us at 403-261-7779 or use our online form to book a time that works for you. There is no obligation, just clear answers from a Licensed Insolvency Trustee.
How will this affect my credit score?
A consumer proposal or bankruptcy will affect your credit report for a period of time. During your consultation, we explain what that impact may look like and how rebuilding can begin after the process is underway or completed.
What should I expect when I meet with a Licensed Insolvency Trustee to discuss filing a Consumer Proposal?
Your first meeting is a confidential conversation, not an interrogation. We start by simply listening. You share what is going on with your finances, including the debts you are carrying, who your creditors are, your monthly income, and what assets you have.
From there, we review your full financial picture together and explain whether a Consumer Proposal is the right fit for your situation. If it is, we walk you through what a realistic monthly payment could look like, how long the proposal would run, and what happens to your assets and creditor calls once it is filed.
